Visit the Hot Rubble website to start your career in the mining and resource sector

The Hot Rubble website was developed by RESA in partnership with enthusiastic staff from South Australian mining companies. The website aims to answer the frequently asked question ‘How do I get a job in mining?’ by providing searchable information specifically tailored to school leavers, graduates and workers in other industries looking to get a foothold in the resources sector.

Hot Rubble uses real life mining case studies to show the various pathways into the mining and resource sector. Thanks to the help of SA mining companies, OZ Minerals and Rex Minerals recruitment stories of various staff members are shared. Mining staff from OZ’s Prominent Hill Mine and Rex’s Hillside Project played a big part in the project, with their interviews and photographs a prominent part of the website.

The case study for beginning a career in mining is shown below.

Hot Rubble Case Study one
Electrical Apprentice Eloise - above - (RESA's school leaver case study) features in a short interview on the Hot Rubble website and answers questions about her current role, training, the job application process and the degree of difficulty she experienced in securing her position. With only a few weeks of mining work under her belt, the experience of job hunting was top of mind for 19 year old Eloise who was willing to pass on some advice for those looking for jobs in the South Australian mining sector.

‘Present yourself as best as you can; interviews, in person, over the phone and in your job application. Do as much as you can to make yourself a competitive applicant, such as gaining qualifications. Be yourself in an interview and let your own personality shine as that is what mining companies truly look for,’ explained Eloise.

Hot Rubble includes information on qualifications that lead to jobs in the mining and resource sector, examples of job tasks and their associated salary. An interactive map of the 20 operational major mine sites in South Australia is also included, as well as the pipeline of jobs on offer and myths about working in the industry. Hot Rubble aims to be the go to site for those looking to enter SA resource sector and start a career in mining
