A comprehensive approach to workforce planning

Launch of the Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula workforce scoping study

Resources and Engineering Skills Alliance in partnership with Innovation Economics and the Training and Skills Commission launched the Resources Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula (WEP) Workforce Scoping Study on the 27th October 2011 and we are pleased to share with you a copy of the final report.

The report provides up to date data on the current and forecasted workforce through to 2020 based on occupation.  It forecasts and details considerable workforce growth in the Whyalla and Eyre Peninsula region, it estimates more than 2200 ongoing direct jobs will be created in mining and processing operations over the next decade.

Workforce development planning is becoming key for future projects.  A comprehensive approach to workforce planning, involving businesses, governments, training institutions and supporting agencies such as RESA, SACOME and Skills DMC, is vital to ensure that resources projects are not impeded by a shortage of skilled and qualified workers or excessive labour costs driven by such a shortage.
