Industry Engagement

The skills and workforce plans underpinning the dynamic South Australian mining sector need to be rock solid in order for this sector to grow and prosper.

This is the message from RESA - the organisation tasked with bridging the skills, training and workforce gaps in our State's resources sector.

South Australia has world leading mineral assets headlined by significant deposits of copper, gold, iron ore, uranium, rare earths and mineral sands. Over the last decade, the number of major operating mines has increased substantially from 4 mines to 20, with another 30 major developments underway.

South Australia is the birthplace of the Australian iron ore industry with eight operational mines in the Middleback Ranges (six mines) and North Gawler Craton (two mines). There are a further two mines approved and 21 development/prospect projects across the State with identified resources over 8 billion tonnes.

RESA believes that the key to continued growth of the sector is a concerted effort to lift both performance and the level of skills needed. The dedicated team at RESA are constantly engaging with the resources sector regarding workforce development, research, the annual Skills Summit, the Hot Rubble career website, regional issues and board member issues.
