A range of programs, funding and training is available for businesses throughout the year, please review the list below for any opportunities that may suit your business.

Future Jobs Fund

A $200 million Future Jobs Fund was established in the 2017-18 State Budget, which aims to encourage investment, help build new industries and continue to support the State’s growth sectors which already competing successfully globally.

The Fund offers a series of grants and low interest loans to help businesses expand and create jobs in growing sectors, including:

  • Shipbuilding and defence
  • Renewable energy and mining
  • Tourism, food and wine
  • Health and biomedical research
  • IT and advanced manufacturing.

As part of the $200 million fund, $50 million of grants and $70 million of low interest loans is available to provide support to businesses and grow local jobs.

Under the scheme:

  • A minimum of $100,000 and up to a maximum of $5 million grants are available per proposal. Applications close Friday 29th September.
  • A minimum of $100,000 and up to a maximum of $10 million loans are available per proposal. Applications close Friday 29th September.
  • Grants of up to $50,000 are also available to assist applicants develop a business case in support of applications for the above grants and or loans. Applications close Friday 14th July 2017.

Applications are now sought from businesses and other non-government organisations.

South Australian Early Commercialisation Fund

The South Australian Early Commercialisation Fund (SAECF) is a new SA State Government grant program established to assist South Australia’s entrepreneurs and innovative organisations looking to commercialise novel products and services. The SAECF will provide eligible companies and organisations with grants of up to a maximum of $500,000 + GST with matched funding required in most cases.

METS Ignited Project Funds Round 2

METS Ignited has launched the second round of project funding to support, encourage and fund sector-wide collaboration.

The METS Ignited Project Fund is intended to drive collaboration and/or be of broad benefit to the Australian METS sector.

It is recognised that innovation in the mining sector is not easy. It is essential to understand the barriers to innovation and develop coalitions to collaboratively work to overcome the problems.

Under the fund, METS Ignited is encouraging the development of projects that include multiple METS companies that are working closely with an end-user, such as a mining company, system integrator or OEM. Projects supported by researchers as subject matter experts will add strength to the collaborative efforts.

Projects must be collaborative and industry-led with clear commercialisation applications that address one or more of the following:

  • Industry Knowledge Priorities in Sector Competitiveness Plan
  • Key mining challenges
  • Establishment of METS Living Lab nodes/sandpits as part of an industry wide Living Lab network
  • Blue sky opportunities where solutions do not currently exist. Developing a solution will bring very significant and long lasting benefits to mining companies and to the Australian METS sector.
  • Other industry-led projects that can demonstrate they will deliver a sustainable advantage to the METS sector

Entrepreneurs' Program

The Entrepreneurs’ Programme uses experienced Advisers and Facilitators, drawn from industry, to ensure businesses get the advice and support needed to improve their competiveness, productivity and to seek growth opportunities. Practical support for businesses, researchers and entrepreneurs includes: advice from people with relevant private sector experience, co-funded grants to commercialise novel intellectual property in the form of new products, processes and services, funding to take advantage of growth opportunities, and connection and collaboration opportunities.

The Entrepreneurs' Programme is the Australian Government’s flagship initiative for business competitiveness and productivity. It forms part of the Australian Government’s National Innovation and Science Agenda.

The programme offers support to businesses through four elements:

  • Accelerating Commercialisation - helps small and medium businesses, entrepreneurs and researchers to commercialise  novel products, services and processes
  • Business Management - experienced Business Advisers and Facilitators review business operations, including business direction, strategy, growth opportunities and supply chain. They provide a report with strategies for business improvement and work with you to make them happen.
  • Incubator Support - assists New and Existing Incubators to improve the prospects of Australian start-ups achieving commercial success in international markets, through helping them to develop their business capabilities.
  • Innovation Connections - experienced Innovation Facilitators work with your business to identify knowledge gaps that are preventing your business growth. The outcome is an Innovation Facilitation Report.

Practical support for businesses includes:

  • advice from people with relevant private sector experience
  • co-funded grants to commercialise new products, processes and services
  • funding to take advantage of growth opportunities
  • connection and collaboration opportunities.
